FireMaker COVERage

ROYAL OAK, Mich. (May 2008) Murray Pfaff has had the privilege of seeing his designs on the pages of major magazines multiple times in just a few scant years.  But in just the past six months he has seen his very own 1956 Cadillac in four national publications.  Two of them were features, with one even making the cover of Car Audio and Electronics, the world’s largest magazine dedicated to mobile electronics.

In November SUPER ROD magazine gave the Cadillac in-depth coverage with six pages of text and photos.  Great attention was paid to the details that make up the list of extensive custom modifications that blend with the original Cadillac lines so well that they often go un-noticed.  They also did a nice job on crediting the work of others that helped make the yacht-sized custom a stand-out.

As Editor Stephen Anderson put it, “Murray Pfaff’s ’56 Cadillac takes his illustration to the street with heat!”  Other excerpts included – “The world of Super Rodding has come a long way since enthusiasts were building cars as a result of the components that were on hand rather than by conceptual layouts.  But that was about necessity, and today the hobby has taken on an entirely new impetus and style, thanks largely to the vision of those who have the ability to see beyond what’s been and look instead to what can result with the right combination of skill, parts, imagination and risk.”  All of this was summed up nicely with – “This guy is always thinking about cars, designs and other points of interest that happen to fly by.”

Haggerty Insurance included the Cadillac in their quarterly magazine.  It covered the car’s transformation from a neglected barn find to its customized and polished current state.  FireMaker also found its way into the November issue of DUB magazine pictured at the Detroit DUB show and concert.

Finally to top this all off, FireMaker dominates the cover of the June 2008 issue of Car Audio and Electronics magazine.  Senior Editor Brook Howell tells how a naive Pfaff thought an amp, a CD player, and a sub might impress.  Once he learned of the advancements made in car audio since the last time he invested in one, a 3000 watt system was created for the Cadillac’s cavernous trunk.  A page of build photos relates the transformation from foam core mock-ups to fiberglass to finished panels in the documentation of the installation.

The six page feature does a great job of covering the details, the equipment, the vendors, and all involved in the build.  “It’s always nice to see the final photos in color with captions, but more importantly I like to see the process and the journey it took to complete a fine looking automobile – that’s where the story is” Pfaff relates.  In addition he added “To see my very own car, my idea of a hot rod on the cover of a magazine is really a red-letter date!”
