FireMaker Ignites 2007 Detroit Autorama
While most cars featured at the 2007 Detroit Autorama were delivered in hermetically sealed containers, Murray Pfaff took advantage of the sixty degree weather to drive his 1956 Cadillac "FireMaker" to COBO hall in the heart of Motown. Pfaff did admit that while there were a number of gawkers speeding up to have a look the spectacle rumbling down the freeway in the middle of March, he kept pushing the loud pedal closer to the floor in order to stay head of the commuter cars shooting their spray. "By the time I made it to the freeway exit – there was a procession of cars going 90, just to get a glimpse!"
As if that alone was not enough of a scene, FireMaker, the 1956 Cadillac designed and built by Murray Pfaff, was featured in over 15 media outlets promoting the 2007 Detroit Autorama. Murray Pfaff was quoted in the Detroit News saying "These hot rods are each person's personal stamp on what they want in a car and what they think it should be," Pfaff says. "It's their chance to stick a flag in the ground and say, this is it, this is what a car should be.” The car itself couldn’t have garnered a better location at the show, one row behind the multi-million dollar Riddler contenders. In the finest Cadillac fashion FireMaker was displayed on a genuine faux black ranch mink floor covering. Show goers especially enjoyed the car with over 1000 fans taking home FireMaker postcards and posters. Judges noticed the MTX Audio sound system, designed by Pfaff, and installed by Street Legal Customs by writing “Cool Trunk!” in their notes. The system features 2 – 12” subwoofers, 2 capacitors, wiring by Street Wires, and over 3000 watts of power! It is further aided by Dynamat lined body panels and surfaces. Up next for FireMaker is a Cadillac Performance Parts motor by Richard Potter making 500 HP and a whopping 650 LB/FT of torque. The build up of the motor will be featured in the pages of HOT ROD magazine with an article dedicated to this 500 cubic inch Cadillac mill. ![]()
